Boise Gear Collective & COVID-19

EDIT: We are reopening to the public as of May 1st!

In accordance with Governor Little’s staged business reopening, we are opening our doors tomorrow! We will be requiring customers to wear masks and sanitize their hands upon entry. We will also be limiting customer to 5 in the store at any given time. Thank you for understanding and we look forward to getting you outside again!

Hello loyal followers of Boise Gear Collective. Many of you know me, but for those who don’t, my name is Tyson and I am the founder and owner of this awesome sauce here. I wanted to personally send out an update on how we plan to handle the COVID19 pandemic so we come out on the other side strong while still protecting everyone involved.

We have instituted strict cleanliness policies here and all of our employees are on-board and enthusiastically following them. More details are available at the store, but rest assured that we are following all of the available guidelines to make sure we are as safe as possible while still staying open to serve the outdoor community.

We are very aware of the possibility we may be forced to close for a period of time in the coming weeks. My main goal is to make sure this business has enough cash to help our employees survive during that likely scenario. We are a family here and I want to do everything in this company’s power to support them during these hard times. In order to do that we need your help! We have marked all of our WINTER retail inventory all the way down to OUR COST OR LESS!! We as a company decided to bypass any progressive sale as is normal this time of year and just get what we have invested in our winter inventory back in the bank account before things get worse. All of our new retail bikes are also 19% off! We are doing this as a proactive and preventive measure to make sure we are strong enough for the rough times that may lie ahead. That means the best prices you will EVER see on new skis, bindings, avi gear, climbing skins and more. If you have been considering new winter gear, come get it now because it will never be cheaper!

In an effort to reduce our operational cost, we are making some changes to our hours. We will now be closed on Monday, open 11-5 Tuesday thru Friday and open 10-6 on Saturday and Sunday. That being said, we are doing some construction to improve the layout of the shop and will likely be here outside of the reduced hours. If you are not comfortable being around the general public and know there is something you want to buy, we can arrange to be here for you. Or if those hours don’t work with your schedule, reach out to us. We are being totally flexible and even kicking around the idea of doing pick up and delivery for bike tuning services. Just let us know what you need and we will see what we can do. Give the shop a call at 208-429-1124 or send an email to info@boisegearcollective.com and we will do whatever we can to accommodate you.

With all this being said, we do understand a lot of places are closing down completely. We are all monitoring the situation and if it comes down to closing because that is the necessary thing to do, we will do that. I’ll level with you that I would really like to get some more cash in the bank before that happens. Our employees need to eat and pay rent and I am going to do whatever I can to make sure that happens. I wish we had millions of dollars in the bank like the big corporations do and could just afford to close. But we are a small business and that is just not the reality of the situation. I am sure that nearly every small business owner is having these same thoughts right now. We have had an amazing winter and are generally very healthy as a business. It’s just going to take a chunk of change to make it through a multi-week closure.

We are all about getting outside and into the wilderness. Social distancing is the best way to avoid spreading this thing. Get outside and enjoy life. Now is the perfect time to get out riding your bike or do some hiking. While we really need to change our behavior, don’t forget to take care of yourself and get some sunshine. The weather is beautiful and it’s not all bad.

Over our 7 years in business, we have become fully invested in the community of Boise. We plan to be here for a long time to come. Come support this place you love and help us to weather this storm by grabbing some new winter gear at the best prices you will ever see.

Thank you,

Tyson Stellrecht.
